organizes “Thai Textile: A Touch of Thai” Exhibition and Fashion Show in Osaka

                        The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Ministry of Culture of Thailand, organized “Thai Textile: A Touch of Thai” Exhibition and Fashion Show in Osaka to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, and her pioneering work in the preservation of Thai textile. The event was also held to promote Thai textile in the Japanese market.

                        On 22 August 2019, Consul-General Krit Tankanarat delivered the opening remarks at the “Thai Textile: A Touch of Thai” Exhibition and Fashion Show in Osaka. Among the invited guests were  Mr. Jota Yamamoto, Representative of the Government of Japan and Ambassador in charge of Kansai,     Mr. Hironori Harimoto, Representative of the Governor of Osaka and Senior Executive Director of International Relations, Osaka Prefectural Government, Mrs. Ruyaporn Sukonthasup, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Consuls-General and members of the Consular Corps, Team Thailand in Osaka, Japanese businessmen, Friends of Thailand,        as well as members of the local press.

                        Five activities were showcased at the event, namely (1) Thai textile fashion show under the theme “Sport Fashion or Street Fashion” using Thai fashion collections from the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture of Thailand and Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage. The fashion show presented “ASSAJAN Silk”, a new exclusive Thai textile design which incorporates the latest Thai fabric innovation that weaves silk from recycled and antibacterial fibers designed by Hook’s by Prapakas of the Thai designer, Mr. Prapakas Angsusingha. (2) Thai textile exhibition displaying Her Majesty Queen Sirikit,        The Queen Mother and her benevolence in Thai Textile, the types of textiles,  the use of Augmented Reality technology (AR technology) to portray the production of Thai textile, as well as the evolution of Thai textile from local to global (3) workshop on Thai fabrics using innovative technology in weaving the new textile (4) Thai classical music performance and (5) Thai food reception.

                        This event is one of Thailand’s cultural diplomacy activities, starting its journey in Tokyo   on 19 August, Osaka on 22 August and completing the route in Fukuoka on 25 August. With Japan being renown as the center for technological innovation and fashion design, especially Japan’s growing trend for Sports Fashion or Street Fashion in daily life, this Thai Cultural Roadshow project aims at opening up new opportunities and a new chapter of Thailand - Japan cooperation in textiles.  The main feature of this new textile innovation is that it is made from natural resources and has qualities of being light weight, anti-bacteria, UV filtration, durable and has health benefits.

                        To date, Japan ranks as Thailand’s second trading partner and first in terms of foreign direct investment. An opportunity to promote Thai - Japanese cooperation in the area of Thai textile, this event was warmly welcomed by all who attended and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka will organize future activities to add value to this event.
